New Orleans, LA. – Today, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) released a Potential Sale Notice (PSN) for the second wind lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM2). BOEM is proposing to auction four areas offshore from Louisiana and Texas, totaling 410,060 acres on the Outer Continental Shelf.

The PSN for the four areas will be published in the Federal Register on March 21, 2024, initiating a 60-day public comment period. The Southeastern Wind Coalition (SEWC) once again applauds BOEM on the programmatic Environmental Assessment conducted in the Gulf of Mexico that has enabled the release of this PSN, as well as responding to stakeholder feedback requesting more lease areas in proximity to Louisiana. BOEM is seeking feedback on several elements of the PSN, including the removal of the “one lease per bidder” rule.

SEWC’s President Katharine Kollins released the following statement regarding the release of the PSN:

“The Southeastern Wind Coalition commends BOEM on their initiative in responding to economic challenges in the Gulf of Mexico, including the potential removal of limits on the number of lease areas per bidder and green hydrogen. As the offshore wind industry grows, novel approaches will be necessary for Louisiana to reach its full offshore wind potential.”
