Richmond, VA – Virginia is continuing its path to becoming a hub for the global offshore wind supply chain with today’s announcement of a new manufacturing facility coming to the Commonwealth. LS GreenLink USA, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of LS Cable & System, will invest $681 million to build a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cable manufacturing facility in the City of Chesapeake. This investment is set to create over 330 full-time jobs, bolstering the local economy and reinforcing Virginia’s position as a leader in the offshore wind industry.

“Today’s announcement is more proof that Virginia is succeeding in capturing the real-world benefits of the offshore wind industry,” said Managing Director of the Southeastern Wind Coalition, Julia Pendleton. “Building a robust domestic supply chain is essential to the growth of the U.S. offshore wind industry. We’re excited to see Virginian communities continuing to benefit from the economic opportunities this new industry brings.”

A critical piece of equipment for offshore wind projects, HVDC cables are used to transport the energy generated by wind turbines to substations both onshore and offshore. LS Cable & System, Ltd. (LS C&S) is a global leader in power and communication cable and system solutions. LS C&S is a subsidiary of LS Corp., a global industrial conglomerate headquartered in South Korea.
