Communications Manager
Remote (Must be located in the Southeast)
POSITION DETAILS
40 hour week with standard working hours of 9-5 ET
Competitive non-profit salary range of $65-70k, plus 401k plan with company match, technology stipend, paid time off, 13+ paid holidays, and healthcare reimbursement.
SEWC is a fully remote organization but this position does require attendance at some in-person meetings and events. Regional travel is expected up to 25%.
Candidates must be located in the Southeast.
THE ROLE
TThe Communications Manager will be an integral part of advancing SEWC’s programmatic communications and stakeholder engagement work. Across all states and programs, the Manager will lead communications strategy development, oversee communications projects, lead outreach and community engagement efforts, and manage member communications. You will be a key staff member in a small, energetic, growing, and mission-driven organization with an entrepreneurial culture. Can-do attitudes and self-starters will fit well. This position reports to the Managing Director.
DUTIES
Short Term
Manage communications across SEWC’s priority programs (Virginia, North Carolina, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi):
Lead annual and ongoing communications planning, advising staff on optimal data-driven strategies for earned, paid, social, and digital media.
Define state-specific messaging, create communications content, and respond to media inquiries.
Oversee ongoing project management for all comms projects, working directly with program associates.
Manage the organization’s website, social media, and digital presence.
Stay updated on state and federal news and events related to the wind industry, via individual research and partner-led convenings.
Track and analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies using metrics such as audience engagement, media coverage, and website traffic.
Maintain and enhance the organization’s brand identity and ensure consistency across all communication platforms.
Manage the organization’s Communications & Social Media Intern.
Lead community engagement across SEWC’s priority programs:
Lead teams in the planning of community events, webinars, receptions, and stakeholder meetings/convenings.
Organize events and other educational activities, as necessary.
Long Term
Represent SEWC at a variety of speaking engagements, conferences, events, meetings with decision makers, etc. to speak on wind technology, economic benefits, and local opportunities with authority.
Contribute to strategic planning and development with the SEWC leadership team. Be able to think critically and participate in high-level discussions about state, regional, and industry needs.
Identify and lead potential new initiatives to advance wind energy across the Southeast.
QUALIFICATIONS
MUST HAVES
Minimum 4 years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or community engagement work.
Experience developing, executing, tracking, and optimizing communications strategies.
Proficiency with digital marketing, including ad placement, targeting, optimization, and analysis (Google Workspace experience preferred).
First hand experience with event planning and coordination, especially community events such as town halls.
Excellent oral and written presentation skills, including translating technical information to the everyday audience.
Be a team player who can lead without direct authority, work within a small and driven team, and encourage/inspire staff.
A passion for seeing the clean energy industry grow and a strong drive to contribute to SEWC’s success.
Very strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities, work effectively from home, and maintain a positive attitude.
The candidate must be a self starter and be able to provide examples of proactive thinking and initiatives.
NICE TO HAVES
Master’s degree or commensurate experience in a related field.
Exposure in the energy, environmental, or climate fields.
Knowledge of Asana or similar project management tools.
